DESCRIPTION OF THE ARCHEOLOGICAL COMPLEX OF SILLUSTANI:
Located 34 km. From the Puno City, on the peninsula of Umayo lagoon, in this place found the most mysterious and awesome cemetery tombs, called Chullpas of Sillustani, from pre-Incas (Collas and Lupacas) and Incas, this funerary towers with shapes of Inverted cones and square. The funerary towers most important is known as lagartos’s chullpa, it’s the most representative attractive of Sillustani.
Those funeral towers were built by an Aymara-speaking tribe, which dominated the Puno region before the Incas. Ancestor worship was an integral part of the Aymara culture, and the cylindrical towers were built to provide a connection between life and death. Each tower contained the remains of one important member of the tribe mummified in the fetal position to recreate birth.
The person was buried with prized possessions as objects of gold, silver, pottery utensils and food to take to the next world, this custom (it was practiced) because beliefs said that after the death resurrected elsewhere where they had to eat and drink, as they did before dying.
Umayo Lagoon is an impressive water mirror reflecting the blue sky and white clouds of Puno. Which shelter small beautiful island (National Reserve) to protect the Vicuñas.
At 13:50 Hrs. Our customers (passengers) are collected from their hotels by our guide, to leaves to Sillustani, (45 min travel approx.) by Bus; We arrive at the Archaeological Complex, walk uphill along a path to the most important necropolis of Pre-Incas and Incas.
Where we will appreciate the magnificent architecture and engineering that shown in the funerary towers of Sillustani and enjoy the positive energy of this sacred place (1hour 30 min to visit approx.),17:00 hrs. Approx. the bus leaves with destination to Puno.
On the way, we will have a small stop to visit the rural houses of Atuncolla, where we can see the local custom, who living in their typical houses built with stones, mud and straw. Also you can see closely South American camelids such as llamas, alpacas and you will have the opportunity to take the photographs with them, then return to the city of Puno, around 18:00 Hrs. approx. we arrive to Puno and transfer to respective hotels.
